About CivilCovered

CivilCovered is an insurance brokerage brand for civil engineering contractors, construction businesses, subcontractors and plant owners in South Africa. We help you understand your insurance requirements and arrange suitable cover.

Our approach

A contractor’s insurance depends on the work: the ground, the plant, the neighbours, the contract. So we start with your work, not with a product. We read the insurance requirements in your contract, ask about how you actually operate, and then help you arrange cover that fits what you are doing.

We position the service around three things: understanding a contractor’s work, reviewing their insurance requirements and helping arrange suitable cover. Where a contract asks for security rather than insurance, such as a bid or performance guarantee, we help you understand the difference and tell you honestly whether we can assist.

Who we work with

  • Civil engineering contractors working on roads, drainage, pipelines, earthworks and structures.
  • Building and construction businesses whose contracts set insurance requirements.
  • Subcontractors who inherit insurance requirements from a main contract.
  • Plant owners and plant hire businesses, and contractors who hire in equipment.

You can see the exposures we think about for each trade on our industries pages.

What we do and what we do not do

What we do
Review your contract’s insurance requirements, help you organise the information an insurer needs, help arrange quotations, explain what a quotation covers and excludes, and help with claims assistance.
What we do not do
We are not an insurer. We do not underwrite insurance and we do not issue guarantees. Insurers decide whether to accept a risk and on what terms. Guarantee providers decide whether to issue a guarantee.
What we do not promise
We do not promise that cover can be arranged, what it will cost, that a claim will be accepted or that a guarantee will be issued.

How an enquiry works

  1. You tell us about your work

Through the quote form or by getting in touch. A short description is enough to start.

  2. We review the requirements

We look at your contract’s insurance clauses and the information an insurer will need.

  3. We help arrange a quotation

Where cover can be arranged, we approach insurers or providers and explain what comes back.

  4. You decide

You review the quotation against your contract. Cover begins only once it is accepted and confirmed in writing.

Where to go next

Ready to talk through your cover?

Tell us about your work and your contract’s insurance requirements. We will review them and help arrange suitable cover.

Submitting an enquiry or requesting a quote does not put cover in place. Cover is subject to underwriting and policy terms.
